About HomeSickNewfies.com

Message from the Webmaster

Started in the fall of 2005, HomeSickNewfies.com (HSN) has grown at an exponential rate since it's first registered user.

Newfoundland and Labrador is a special place. It's communities, culture, music, and history are all parts of a unique puzzle that tugs on every Newfoundlander who makes the hard decision to leave. The decision to leave can be a daunting one that every ex-patriot Newfoundlander has had to make. Hopefully HSN can help ease the transition to every Newfoundlander's adopted new home.

Over the years I have met many Newfoundlanders who have left the province and settled somewhere else and the one thing that continues to amaze me is that no matter how long they've been living away they always refer to Newfoundland as home. "When are you going home next?", "Did you get home for Christmas?", "Did you hear the big news from back home?". Whether you've been living away for two or twenty-two years those questions roll off your tongue in much the same way they did when you first moved.

Newfoundlander's always share a strong bond that is as unique as our accent, if you're in a new strange place and find a fellow Newfoundlander it's like you've found a long lost brother, instantly living away doesn't seem so bad and while you might not be from the same part of the province you'll share similar stories that you both can relate to. And maybe start a few friendly rivalries... "Nobody makes toutons like my Mom!"

My hope for this site is that it helps people keep their connection to their home province, and also create new friendships that last a long time. Whether your a born and bred Newfoundlander or an honorary one you are part of a community, and through this community we will help keep our heritage alive and well.

A famous politican once said, "You can always tell the Newfoundlanders in Heaven, they're the ones who want to go home!"

No truer words have ever been spoken.

Sincerly,
